Cape Town for The Slow Weekenders: a Friday-to-Monday weekend
A mountain, two oceans and a table laid for everyone.
The weekend as rest. A hotel worth staying in, a hammam or a thermal bath, one unhurried sight each day, lunches that run into the afternoon, and early nights.
Friday: An easy arrival
- Camps Bay Beach
A walk along the palm-lined promenade, with the Twelve Apostles mountains behind; stay for the sun to drop into the sea.
- Codfather
Choose your fish from the counter, with sushi and grilled kingklip; the staff will weigh it and cook it as you like.
Saturday: Spa and vineyards
- Spa at the Twelve Apostles Hotel
A day pass for the spa, the thermal pool and the sauna; a massage is extra, and the mountain view is free.
- Buitenverwachting
A long wine-farm lunch under the oaks, with a tasting menu and a list of their Sauvignon Blanc.
Sunday: Gardens and tea
- Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden
Take the boardwalk and the benches, with Table Mountain overhead; allow a slow morning, and go to the tea garden.
- Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel
Afternoon tea in the pink hotel's Planet Bar or garden, with sandwiches, scones and a pot of Earl Grey.
Monday: A last walk
- Company's Garden
A flat walk through oak avenues and rose beds, with benches every fifty metres.
- Truth Coffee Roasting
A last flat white and breakfast before you head to the airport.
