Ibiza for The Three Generations: a Friday-to-Monday weekend

White walls, salt flats, and a rock that hums.

A weekend everyone can keep up with. Flat routes and places to sit, a boat or a funicular for the view, one highlight a day that works at eight and at eighty, and dinners with a long table.

Friday: The promenade and the ramp

  1. Passeig de Vara de Rey

The town's flat promenade of plane trees and benches, with the harbour at one end and ice cream at the other; everyone finds their pace.

  2. Dalt Vila by the carriage ramp

Through the drawbridge gate and up the stepless ramp to the first bastion, where there is a bench, a cannon, and the whole harbour.

  3. Ca n'Alfredo

The island's classic dining room since 1934, with a long table and a menu that suits eight and eighty; the guisat de peix is for sharing.

Saturday: By boat along the coast

  1. Santa Eulària ferry to Cala Llonga

The little coastal ferry down to Cala Llonga and back, twenty minutes each way with the cliffs alongside; a flat landing at both ends.

  2. Royalty

The town's café since 1933, with a terrace on the main street, a long menu of Ibizan dishes and a cake counter for the youngest.

  3. Pont Vell

The old stone bridge over the island's only river, a flat riverside path to it from the promenade, and ducks for the children.

Sunday: Salt and the plaza

  1. Ses Salines salt pans

Drive the causeway between the pink pools and stop at the viewpoints for flamingos and the salt stacks; no walking required.

  2. Santa Gertrudis plaza

A flat village square with a white church, two galleries and shade, where the grandparents sit with a coffee while the children circle.

  3. Can Berri Vell

A 300-year-old farmhouse with a terrace on the village plaza and lamb from the next valley; a long table outside at seven is easy to book.

Monday: The cove and the fortress church

  1. Sa Caleta Phoenician settlement

A short boardwalk round the island's first town on a red headland, with benches facing the sea; the car park is at the gate.

  2. Església de Sant Jordi

A white fortress church with a flat plaza in front and a cool nave inside; five minutes from the airport road.

  3. La Escollera

Lunch on a wooden deck above Es Cavallet beach, paella for the table and a flat walk to the water; the airport is fifteen minutes away.
