Marrakech for The Three Generations: a Friday-to-Monday weekend
Rose walls, spice smoke and a square that never sits still.
A weekend everyone can keep up with. Flat routes and places to sit, a boat or a funicular for the view, one highlight a day that works at eight and at eighty, and dinners with a long table.
Friday: Terrace and square
- Café Glacier
A terrace over the square, one flight of stairs up, with a juice for everyone and a front-row seat for the sunset. Go slowly on the stairs.
- Al Fassia
A calm, ground-floor dining room with long tables and slow-cooked lamb. Book a large table, and early.
Saturday: Flat gardens and a museum
- Jardin Majorelle
Flat, wide paths and plenty of benches. Go at opening before it fills.
- Grand Café de la Poste
Big round tables, a shaded terrace and a menu everyone will find something on.
- Musée Yves Saint Laurent
A lift, air-conditioning and benches throughout. A comfortable hour among the sketches.
Sunday: A foothills garden
- Anima Garden
Paths are mostly flat and shaded, with sculptures to find. Take a car, and plan for an hour.
- Kechmara
A relaxed Guéliz brasserie with a big menu and ground-floor tables. A long lunch for all ages.
- Menara Gardens
A flat walk to the basin and a bench by the pavilion. The Atlas peaks make a good backdrop.
Monday: One palace and a coffee
- Bahia Palace
Flat courtyards and shade, with plenty of seats. Take it slowly, one hour in all.
- Bacha Coffee
A grand coffee house with a long pastry counter. A gentle last stop for all three generations.
