Marrakech for The Thrill Seekers: a Friday-to-Monday weekend
Rose walls, spice smoke and a square that never sits still.
You see a city from its hills, its water and its bike lanes. Early starts, real sweat, a hike or a paddle out of town, and the best recovery meals in the place.
Friday: Land and run
- Menara Gardens
Run the paths around the basin and through the olive groves as the heat lifts. The pavilion backed by the Atlas is a good finish line.
- Al Fassia
Run by an all-women team, serving slow-cooked lamb with prunes and almonds. It books out, so reserve, and order the mechoui to share.
Saturday: Toubkal's doorstep
- Imlil
The trailhead for Toubkal, an hour and a half from the city. Take the mule track up to the shrine at Sidi Chamharouch and back in about five hours.
- Kasbah du Toubkal
The mountain lodge above the village serves day visitors a long lunch on its roof terrace. Order tagine and the thick local honey with mint tea.
- Nomad
A rooftop with a modern take on Moroccan classics. Reward the legs with the lamb shoulder, and book a table on the top terrace.
Sunday: Wings and wires
- Ciel d'Afrique
A dawn balloon flight over the palms and the Atlas, with a Berber breakfast after landing. Pick-up is from your hotel around 05:30.
- Terres d'Amanar
A zipline park among the pines, with several lines across the gorge and a rope course. Book a morning slot; it gets crowded by noon.
- Kechmara
The easy Guéliz brasserie with big burgers and cold beers. It is loud, relaxed and exactly the right place to refuel.
Monday: Hammam recovery
- Hammam Dar El Bacha
The historic public hammam by the Dar el Bacha. Strip off the weekend with a steam, a scrub and a cold rinse. Take your own towel.
- Amandine
A French bakery in Guéliz with croissants, pain au chocolat and strong coffee. It is the right size of breakfast before a flight.
